Construction Characteristics

Workability:

  • Low Slump – The ability to pile or place the material in vertical applications with out form work. Particularly important when doing free form construction or hand castings.
  • Lightweight – Weighs from 18 to 60 lb. per cubic foot depending upon application
  • Standard Tools – Can be cut with a hand saw or disc grinder and worked with raditional tools
  • Pumpable – utilizing peristaltic pump, with less wear and tear on equipment due to light weight*
  • Nailable – Can be nailed and screwed and anchors added*

Physical Properties:

  • Cost competitive within its marketplace and application
  • Cured material is non-toxic
  • Lasts as long as the concrete it is associated with
  • Excellent Freeze–Thaw Cycle characteristics since aggregate is not affected by temperature changes which greatly reduces cracking*
  • Excellent insulating properties – insulates up to 30 times more than ordinary concrete*
  • Fireproof, with a rating of 4 hours for a 6.8″ wall*
  • High sound resistance, 39 dBa absorbed per 2.8″ thickness*
  • Impervious to insect, bug, and rodent infestation*
  • Impervious to moisture, 3% – 5% absorption*
  • Impervious to mold, swelling, and other damp and cold conditions unlike ordinary concrete*
  • Perfect in seismically active areas – does not transmit vibrations*
  • Resists crushing – supports more than 2 tons/yd2*
  • Resists fracturing*
  • Resists punching shear – with its finish coat, it supports greater than 569lbs/in/sq*
  • Saves on transportation fuel costs and wear on equipment due to its light weight

*These characteristics vary dependent on mix properties, thicknesses, and application
